Nurturing young kids

Preschool programs that properly stimulate and nurture a young child’s mind will result in better-prepared children by the time they start school

Play with your toddler

Take the time to play and talk with your toddler frequently – the first step to avoiding tantrums is setting up good communication with your child.

Overweight kids

According to the national Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System, 10.2 percent of children in the United States under the age of five were overweight in 1998.

Baby Talk

Some parents are adamant against baby talk; instead, they want kids to hear adults speak normally. But that’s the wrong approach. Parentese’s exaggerated qualities help children’s brains discern discrete sounds.

Toys in groups and alone

Plastic bats are great for solo play but a disaster in a group. Select age and temperament-appropriate toys.

Yummy stamp activity

Instead of using ink pads when doing thumb prints (animals etc) use Hershey’s syrup.. kids don’t mind licking their fingers… Just be careful they don’t get too carried away and let it drip all over their papers.

Pre-vacation preperation

If possible, Take your child to the airport on a day you’re not flying and show her what the people are doing: standing in lines, going through security, etc.

Father’s Day activity

For a fun Dad day gift, find some shoes, shirts hats or other articles that dad often wears and let your toddler try them on. Then take some pictures and mount them in a CD case as a frame.

Making Father’s day gifts

Suggest that your child makes a Father’s Day gift. With only a little help from you, even a toddler can create something that Dad or Grandpa wouldn’t trade for any store-bought treasure in the world.

Collecting in nature

Kids of all ages love to collect things, but toddlers make collecting a fine art.

Give your toddler a a plastic shoe box in the outdoors to collect sticks, leaves, pine straw, acorns… There is an endless supply of collection worthy objects out in nature.

Have a pool?

Make sure adults are trained in life-saving techniques and CPR so they can rescue a child if necessary.

Eat Oreos for better teeth

To help tots understand the importance of brushing, it can be sometimes fun and helpful to let him eat or drink something that will ‘stain’ his teeth temporarily, such as oreos, and then let him brush them clean.

Picky eaters

What if an underweight toddler is a picky eater? This is a typical problem with many toddlers, but is one that can be overcome.

It often takes offering a food 15 times before a picky eater will try the food. Try offering new foods to toddlers along with foods that they like and they will eventually experiment with the food.

Baby toys

Baby Toys are not just your baby’s playing tool, they help a lot in building their overall development. So before buying toys for your child, you should think of its utility and different ways of playing it.

Cutting a tot’s hair

Place a piece of scotch or other clear tape across the bangs with the bottom edge where the bottom of the bangs should be after cutting.

This has two advantages: Firstly, the tape shows how the hair will look before any cuts are made, and secondly, the tape will hold the hair still during the cutting process, thus helping create a straight line.

Teach healthy eating

Provide three nutritious meals supplemented with two to three healthy snacks daily.

Camping with kids

Unless your family is used to more rustic activities, it is best to choose a campsite with running water and clean restrooms that include showers when camping with a toddler.

baggage restrictions with an infant

Check with your airline in advance about baggage restrictions. On international flights, some airlines will allow a lap infant to check baggage, other airlines exclude baby items like a car seat or stroller as part of the parent’s baggage allowance.

Summer activity tip

Enroll your toddlers in summer programs at local museums.

In large cities such as New York or Los Angeles, you will have access to children’s museums, which are already in themselves a great way to learn and have fun at the same time. In smaller cities, museums may have a specialized children’s program running alongside adults’ workshops or lectures.

Being prepared when traveling

When traveling always carry a change of clothes for your child and it is advisable to carry a change of top / t-shirt for yourself too. You never know when you will need it.
