Have children color on a large paper on the floor on their hands and knees to strengthen hips and shoulders. Fill a small tub with water and give toddler containers. Let her pour water from one container to the other. Add bubbles for extra fun. Puzzles and shape sorters are great for toddlers 18+ months old. ‘Narrate’ your child’s activities so that they will know that they have your focused attention. This will support them in language and thinking development. Finger painting with edible materials is super fun for a toddler. You can reuse materials such as egg cartons, yarn scraps, toilet paper tubes, and boxes for many activities. By 18 months, it is age appropriate for your child to try scribbling with a crayon. Backyard swing sets and play areas are wonderful, but make sure they are safe by having a soft surface underneath. Plan times for everyone to get moving together.
