Don’t force toddlers to share

Don’t force toddlers to share; it actually delays the development of sharing skills.

Kids need to feel secure in their ownership before they can share. Instead, introduce the concept of taking turns.

  • I agree with some degree here. I have a 5 year old who is learning to share with his baby sister. We basically let him have certain toys which we know are special to him as his, and we talk about sharing other things, or at least letting his sister use them while he is not. We have also found that sometimes he wants to play with a new baby toy that we bought for her and we sometimes use that as leverage and explain to him that if he wants to play with her toys, he has to also let her play with some of his.
